RUTH SHANAHAN

RUTH SHANAHAN

1935-2016

Ruth Shanahan was instrumental in the establishment of Mary Crowley Cancer Research and was our most faithful supporter from inception.  Her legacy and blessing for our patients, Board of Trustees, physicians, and staff are innumerable.

As the daughter of our founder Mary C. Crowley, Ruth shared her mother’s desire to bring HOPE to cancer patients. She was keenly interested in making progress in the fight against cancer for the benefit of our patients and their families. Ruth encouraged our leadership to move forward with the innovative therapies that have become the hallmark of our research.

Ruth lived out her faith in practical ways, always caring for the individual with a remarkable memory for every person she met and his or her individual needs.  She pointed others toward the Hope we have in Christ, while reminding us to cultivate gratitude.  “I’m just very thankful,” was the phrase heard from her most, regardless of her personal circumstances.  It is fitting that the Lord called her home at Thanksgiving.  Ruth lived well. She found her greatest joy in inspiring others to faith in Christ.

Ruth is survived by son David, daughter-in-law Salli and four grandchildren; brother Don, wife Linda and many beloved nieces and nephews.

May we continue to bless and serve others in honor of Ruth and her mother Mary C. Crowley.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
    go into his courts with praise.
    Give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good.
    His unfailing love continues forever,
    and his faithfulness continues to each generation.”
Psalm 100: 4-5
